DIREITOS Program will benefit from FAMOD Experience

A new milestone for the inclusion and rights of people with disabilities was established today, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between JOINT – League of NGOs in Mozambique and the Forum of Mozambican Associations of People with Disabilities (FAMOD). The ceremony took place at the JOINT offices, with the presence of Executive Directors Simão Tila and Clodoaldo Castiano.

This innovative agreement promises to integrate FAMOD's vast experience into the DIREITOS Program, which aims to expand access to justice, democracy, human rights and governance for disadvantaged groups, including women, youth and people with disabilities. With funding from USAID and in partnership with KULIMA, the DIREITOS program is now strengthened to promote the political participation and human rights of people with disabilities in Mozambique.

"The collaboration between JOINT and FAMOD is a crucial step towards ensuring that the needs and rights of people with disabilities are integrated into all phases of implementation of the DIREITOS Program," said Simão Tila, Executive Director of JOINT. FAMOD's Clodoaldo Castiano added: "This MoU is a great opportunity to leverage our experience and ensure that inclusion practices are aligned with international standards."

The Memorandum outlines several specific objectives, including undertaking critical reviews of the inclusion approach, developing a best practice guide and proactively participating in dialogue and reflection events.

This agreement represents a significant step forward for the inclusion and support of people with disabilities in Mozambique, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights guaranteed in all spheres of public life.
