JOINT – League of NGOs in Mozambique – participated this Monday, July 14, in the 1st Reflection Meeting on Self-Regulation Mechanisms for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The event aimed to discuss concrete pathways for strengthening governance, ethics, and transparency within the sector.
The meeting, which also sought to establish the Reference Group that will oversee the mechanism's implementation, took place in a rich and constructive environment of knowledge sharing. It brought together representatives from various civil society organizations along with national and international experts.
The session was organized into four strategic segments:
Global Vision on Self-Regulation Mechanisms A presentation on the importance of self-regulation mechanisms in a global context, featuring international examples and highlighting the role of these instruments in strengthening CSOs.
Types of Mechanisms and Their Implications A discussion on different self-regulation models, their benefits, and challenges, as well as an analysis of their applicability to the Mozambican reality.
Criteria for Establishing the Reference Group Defining the criteria and responsibilities of the Reference Group that will monitor the development and validation process of the national self-regulation mechanism.
The Way Forward: Action Plan Presentation of the next steps, including regional consultations, the drafting of Terms of Reference (ToRs), a validation meeting, and an implementation plan.
JOINT's presence in this initiative reinforces its active role in promoting best practices, integrity, and cohesion within Mozambican civil society. We believe that solid and inclusive self-regulation mechanisms are essential to ensuring greater impact, legitimacy, and trust in our actions among communities and partners.
