JOINT in the CPLP Civil Society Forum
JOINT Assumes the Presidency of the Board of the General Assembly of the CPLP Civil Society Forum
Within the framework of the General Assembly of the Civil Society Forum of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (FSC-CPLP), held on April 28, 2026, in Cascais, Lisbon, JOINT (the League of NGOs in Mozambique) was formally elected to lead the Board of the General Assembly for the 2026–2028 triennium.
With this vote, JOINT, represented by its Executive Director, Simão Tila, will chair the Board of the General Assembly for the 2026–2028 term. This election represents a recognition of the active role that the Mozambican platform has played in promoting civic space and good governance across the Lusophone arena.
In addition to leading the Board of the General Assembly, JOINT strengthened its strategic positioning within the Forum's executive structure by also securing a seat on the Permanent Technical Secretariat, a body that will be coordinated by FONGTIL of Timor-Leste.
Under JOINT’s leadership on the Board, the FSC-CPLP immediately approved an ambitious agenda for the current year, highlighted by the creation of the Observatory on Governance, Democracy, and Human Rights (OGDDH). The Mozambican organization thus assumes the responsibility of leading the preparatory work and institutional dialogues that will culminate in the V Civil Society Forum Meeting, scheduled for July 2027 in Timor-Leste.
The CPLP Civil Society Forum is an international platform that brings together and coordinates various non-governmental organizations, associations, and social movements from Portuguese-speaking countries. Its primary mandate is to ensure the representation and inclusion of citizens' voices in CPLP decision-making processes, engaging in active advocacy and policy influence with the bloc's government bodies.
For JOINT, this election consolidates its capacity for civic diplomacy and constructive advocacy beyond its borders, at a time when capacity building, autonomy, and the strengthening of national CSO platforms have become imperative for the sustainability of civil society within the CPLP space.
