JOINT Submits Contributions to INTIC for the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy
JOINT – Liga das ONGs em Moçambique (the League of NGOs in Mozambique) formally submitted today (June 5th) its technical and civic contribution document for the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) to the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC), the public body responsible for supervising and regulating the Information and Communication Technologies sector in Mozambique.
The document is the result of an extensive consultation process conducted with JOINT members and partners, and it was grounded in a comparative study of international and regional best practices. Key references utilized include the EU AI Act, the OECD Principles, the UNESCO Recommendations, and the African Union's Continental AI Strategy.
The organization argues that while Artificial Intelligence offers clear opportunities for Mozambique's development, its governance must be strictly participatory. It is essential to ensure effective operational safeguards based on human rights, transparency, and social inclusion.
The JOINT delegation was received by the Board of Directors of INTIC in a meeting led by Constantino Sotomane, Executive Board Member for the Technical and Operational Department. The civil society delegation included Elídia Zacarias, Communication and Advocacy Officer for JOINT, as well as Eunice Margarido and Valy Bayano, representing HOPEM (Rede Homens pela Mudança), a JOINT member organization.
In turn, Constantino Sotomane congratulated and thanked JOINT for submitting the document, emphasizing that it will receive a detailed evaluation from INTIC's technical teams. On this occasion, the Board Member formally invited JOINT and other civil society organizations to extend this civic exercise to other regulatory instruments currently under development.
With this initiative, Mozambican civil society reaffirms its active and purposeful role in shaping the country's technological and digital governance policies.
